With the overall number of papers presented in CIÉPO symposia being restricted for organisational reasons, abstracts are important for the double-blind selection process, since they constitute the principal basis for a panel or paper’s acceptance or rejection by the Vetting Board.
It is therefore necessary to adopt a standard format for Abstracts to be followed by all applicants. All applications must clearly define:
- The objective of the contribution (panel or paper);
- the argument that the contribution makes;
- the sources on which the contribution is built;
- the methodology used for the contribution to achieve its goal;
- the innovative character of the contribution with regard to existing scholarship.
Abstracts may be composed in one of the accepted symposium languages: English, French, German or Turkish.
The title of the abstract will be taken as the title of the paper or panel to be announced in the symposium programme.
No changes are allowed to the title of papers or panels after the abstract has been selected for presentation in the symposium, unless the symposium organisers have agreed to them. Any intended changes must be communicated to the symposium organisers in good time with sufficient explanation as to why they have to be made.
The language in which a paper (or panel) is presented in the symposium must be identical with the language of the title and abstract as announced in the symposium’s programme. Any changes need to obtain approval from the symposium organisers prior to the official announcement of the symposium’s programme.
